Balboa Intensives
As a companion to our beginner-level Balboa Crash Course, we’re adding Balboa Intensives for the intermediate Balboa student and beyond (Lindy Hoppers who learned the shapes and then got stuck, this means you!). If you’ve got a few hours on a Saturday afternoon, we can help you refine your technique and put some new variations in your arsenal.
Take those basic figures and get them to the next level. Bal-ify yourself! It’s fun. And it feels great to rock some sweet Balboa when bands pull out their blazing fast numbers.
Each Balboa Intensive will focus on a particular figure or aspect of the dance. Watch this page for updates when the next Balboa Intensive is planned!

Classes/Schedule
2:15pm-3:15pm Legos: The Basic (all levels, ELEF)
The first hour we’ll review fundamental connection and lead/follow technique and the two “Balboa Basics”
Suitable for ALL levels. (Please note that we will be teaching the first hour ELEF — everybody leads, everybody follows — so that people can get a better understanding and feel of the connection from both roles.)
3:30pm-4:30pm Patterns & Variations (Beginner/Beginner+)
In the second hour we’ll work on the common Pure Balboa figures and their technique — paddle turns, side scoots, and crabwalks — and we’ll probably give you a few ideas on how to change them up.
Suitable for all levels who have previously learned both “Balboa basics.”
4:45pm-5:45pm Timing Toybox (intermediate/advanced)
The last hour we’ll add some fun timing variations which play around with connection and momentum.
Suitable for intermediate/advanced Balboa dancers looking for a little challenge!

Balboa Intensive: Out-and-Ins Progressive!
For students who have completed Balboa Fundamentals 1A or their equivalent. This class will cover Fundamentals 1B content (the basic out-and-ins figure & technique) in the first hour, and then introduce variations and challenges in hours two and three. This workshop will be progressive, with content for every level. Register for one, two, or all three hours!
Balboa Intensive: Pure-Balboa Progressive!
For students who have completed Balboa Fundamentals 1A or their equivalent. This class will cover Fundamentals 1B content (paddle turns, side scoots, and crabwalks) in the first session, and then introduce variations and challenges in the following sessions. This workshop will be progressive, with content for every level. Register for one, two, or all three sessions!
Balboa Intensive: Balboa Swivels Progressive!
For students who have completed Balboa Fundamentals 1A or their equivalent. This class will cover Fundamentals 1B content (Balboa swivels/swivel breaks) in the first hour, and then introduce variations and challenges in hours two and three. This workshop will be progressive, with content for every level. Register for one, two, or all three hours!
