BoaSA & Speakeasy: The next Balboa Speakeasy and Balboa on a Sunday Afternoon practice will be Sunday, July 5. Between All-Balboa Weekend, Father’s Day, and other commitments, there was no available Sunday in June. Most of you are going to ABW anyway, which is awesome!

Quasi-BoaSAs on Tuesdays: Due to the oddities of scheduling, our usual Tuesday class slot from 8-9pm at Dance Complex will be practice sessions on June 2, June 23, and June 30, so come out and work on what you’ve learned! BoaTE FTW!

June/July/August Classes: We’ll be running Balboa Fundamentals B & C during the summer. The schedule will be a little weird, so keep your eye on dates! Fundamentals B will start June 16 at 8PM at the Dance Complex, Studio 5. Fundamentals C will start July 21 at the Dance Complex, Studio 5. These two series will expand your fundamentals and improve your technique — great for those who’ve just finished Intro to Balboa and for experienced dancers who would like to review, refresh and refine.

BoaSA & Speakeasy: The next Balboa Speakeasy will be at Brass Union in Union Square, immediately following the Balboa on a Sunday Afternoon practice Sunday, May 3rd, at the Dance Complex in Studio 4! Come out and dance!

May Classes: We’re coming back ’round again on the guitar, and running our Introduction to Balboa series (Balboa Fundamentals A) on Tuesdays, starting May 5 at 8PM at the Dance Complex, Studio 5. If you’ve been waiting on the sidelines because you didn’t think you knew enough Balboa, now’s your chance! This series will present the basic vocabulary and connection techniques for Balboa, and get you out on the floor dancing Bal socially — great for those who’ve never danced Balboa before and for experienced dancers who would like to review, refresh and refine.

It’s hard to believe it’s already the middle of July, but we’re happy that it means that Mickey Fortanasce and Kelly Arsenault will be in Boston in just a few short days!

Oh, and have we mentioned that the Sunday afternoon Balboa Speakeasy will be held at Tasty Burger in Harvard Square? Yeah, that’s right: Tasty Burgers and Balboa. We’ll see you there, right?

If you’re looking for a Balboa tune-up before then, Jason Swihart and Shana Worel are teaching a Balboa for Lindy Hoppers series at New School Swing this month. This Wednesday will only be the second class in the series, and there will be plenty of useful pointers even for more experienced Balboa dancers — check it out if you can!

We’re just back from All-Balboa Weekend — OMG so tired, but so awesome!

So hey, two big things happening this weekend:

 

Join us Saturday June 21 for our first Saturday Night Shuffle — a Saturday night social dance with kick-ass swing music perfect for Balboa, or shag or fast Lindy! It’s happening at the Crosby Whistle Stop with DJs Javier Johnson and Mike Guzzo… and crazy contest shenanigans (with prizes!)… and I heard there may also be cake!
