Saturday Night Shuffle at Movimiento = wicked fun

Thanks to the gang of people who came out for our latest Saturday Night Shuffle at Movimiento, and thanks to Dang & Nelle for DJing! The new venue was very popular, as you might expect of a cool gallery space with a super smooth wooden dance floor — with free parking no less!

It was great to see old friends, new friends, Providence friends, and all the local Boston dancers who’ve embraced Balboa over the last few years. It was also super-fun to be in a venue on the Boston side of the river! We hope to do more dances in this space in the future!

This has been one hell of a weekend, and all of you made it happen!

TinkerBal 2014 sold out within 24 hours, and our heads are still spinning! Lots of people who didn’t get to register are planning to come to Boston anyway for all the social dancing (and maybe a private lesson before or after the weekend), so we hope to see ALL of you in Boston October 3-5!

And capping a spectacular day was our first Saturday Night Shuffle — which was completely awesome! We had so much fun dancing with and without stuffed lobsters on our heads, and we can’t wait to see even more of you at our next Saturday Night Shuffle (tentatively planned for August 16, stay tuned for details)!

Our hearts are full of Balboa-love, and we appreciate every one of you for coming out, for dancing, for learning, for loving this dance too, and for bringing your energy and joy to the scene.

May Balboa update!

We had a great response to our ridiculously insane registration prices for the Hot & Cool Balboa workshops with Mickey & Kelly coming in July! We may have come to our senses, but if you missed out we still have a set of perfectly reasonable early bird discount prices available through June 4. Check them out!

Locally, we’ve been really excited by the turnout for our Pure Balboa Fundamentals class at the Dance Complex this month. For those who are interested in picking up on the Bal-Swing side of things, we’ll be running a Bal-Swing Fundamentals class on Tuesdays at the same location, starting June 3rd at 8pm. Registration is now open with a $10 discount if you sign up before the first class!

Also, just so you know, coming in June, we’re going to have our first Saturday Night Shuffle — a Saturday night social dance geared towards you — our Balboa audience! Stay tuned for more information!

Balboa Speakeasy is wicked fun, y’all

Did you go to the Balboa social on the last night of TinkerBal? Did you go to the Balboa Speakeasy at Precinct a few weeks ago? If not, then my friend, you are missing out!

A good time was had by all in the back room of Precinct, having tasty snacks, getting their drink on, and dancing Balboa to the sweet DJ tunes from Nelle Cherry. The spinach salad has pork belly in it, yum! The mac and cheese is awesome… and we all had a great time dancing! Come on out and play with us next time… maybe in January? The Hot Club of Cowtown at BSC for a special Thursday-night dance!

We want to make sure everyone knows about a really special event coming up at the end of July: one of our very favorite bands, The Hot Club of Cowtown, is playing a special Thursday-night dance at Boston Swing Central. This is going to be HOT!

The Hot Club of Cowtown plays a seamless blend of Django Reinhardt/Stephane Grappelli-style hot jazz and Bob Wills-style Western Swing. It swings hard and makes you want to dance! Lots of their repertoire is perfect for Balboa. We see them whenever they come through town, but usually they are in venues without a dance floor, so we are thrilled that the folks at BSC have booked them for a THURSDAY-night gig in that beautiful space with that smooth wood floor. It is going to be completely awesome, and we hope you’ll all be there too!
