Balboa Speakeasy
We are THRILLED to announce the RETURN OF BALBOA SPEAKEASY!
The Balboa Speakeasy is a casual gathering at a bar for food, drink, and social Balboa dancing. It’s a blast, and a great way to get to know other dancers. We’ll provide the tunes, you provide the company and the dancing!
For the foreseeable future, we’ll be running it intermittently on Sundays at Franco’s Pizza in Waltham, in their side room adjacent to the bar. We’ll post updates as they happen!
The most-asked question as we come back after the pandemic lockdowns has been: “Will you start doing Speakeasies again!?!” And the answer is now YES, yes we are! Our old venue Brass Union became Vera’s and is no longer open on Sundays, so we have been on the hunt for a new home. What we have found is the side room of Franco’s Pizza, our favorite local pizzeria and purveyor of the finest pizza in Waltham!
Come help us try out this new spot on Sunday August 24. We’re finalizing details, but expect to run Speakeasy from 5-8pm. The floor might not be the best, but it’ll do, and the pizza is great and the beer is cold. Come on out and play!
As always, Speakeasies are free admission, and we encourage you to buy food and drink, and to tip your waitstaff generously. Franco’s Pizza & Pub, 714 Moody St, Waltham
We plan to run other Speakeasies when we can find time or at the end of workshop weekends, so check back often to see when the next one is happening! We’ll be sure to put an announcement here as well as via Facebook (also, Facebook), Twitter and Google+.
The dance is free; food and drink are pay as you go. See you there!
Origin Story:
We had so much fun at our Sunday evening Balboa social the last night of the first TinkerBal weekend in 2012, we wanted to do it again whenever possible! One of the attendees said that it felt like a speakeasy, so we’ve stolen the name and made it official.
