Tink called! Sadly, she can’t make it this year. But her tech-whiz cousin is here to take her place!

Join Boston Balboa on October 2-4 for BIY: Bal It Yourself, a Tinkerbal-inspired, virtual workshop! We’re excited to launch the event with an incredible lineup of instructors: Jennifer Lee, Teni Lopez-Cardenas, Laura Keat, Bobby White and Adam Speen!

BIY is a small-group Balboa workshop designed to support personalized learning in a virtual environment. Students will be divided into small groups, and each group will move together throughout the weekend. You’ll spend time with four of our instructors over the course of the weekend. Saturday includes over three hours of classes, each hour with a different instructor. On Sunday you’ll meet with a fourth instructor for a video feedback session. Students are invited to send in a video prior to the event for the personalized video feedback session.

On Saturday evening, bust out your moves at a virtual DJ’d dance party, and on Sunday, enjoy a relaxed virtual social.

This weekend is designed to be welcoming to people attending solo or with a partner.

All classes require students to be familiar with the fundamental movements and figures of Pure Balboa and Bal-Swing including both Pure Balboa basics, ad libs (progressives, side scoots, paddle turns), lollies, out-and-ins, tossouts and swivels.

Your pass includes:

  • Small group experiences with four world renowned Balboa instructors.
  • Three virtual small group classes on Saturday (1.25 hrs each)
  • A personalized video feedback session with your pod on Sunday (approximately 1.5 hours).
  • Technical Shuffle: A Friday night social. Come hang out and test your tech with us.
  • Virtual Shuffle: a Saturday Night DJ’d virtual party
  • Video Speakeasy: a relaxed virtual social gathering at the end of the weekend

REGISTRATION NOW OPEN.
Please note: You will need your Zoom username to register. Please register with the Zoom account you intend to use for the weekend. Creating a Zoom account is completely free, and you do not need to pay for any of the optional upgrades to participate.

Special Notes about Sunday’s Video Feedback Session:

On Sunday you will have an opportunity to receive personalized feedback from a BIY teacher. Your pod will gather at the start of the feedback session. Your teacher will play the videos from all podmates who submitted a video for review, and will give individual, personalized feedback to each student – about 10 minutes worth of feedback, and relevant exercises per student.

We encourage you to participate in this friendly video feedback session. Not only will you benefit from the personalized feedback you receive, but you’ll also get access to useful tips given to other students! However, if you would like to opt out of sending a video, that is fine! You may still attend the feedback session, but you will not get personalized feedback on your dancing.

Videos are due no later than Saturday, September 19.  Please mark that in your calendars, as we’re unable to accept late video submissions!

Video Criteria:

  • Your video should be uploaded to YouTube. We cannot accept other platforms.
  • Your video must not be password locked and must be accessible by anyone who has the link.
  • Your video can be solo dancing or partnered dancing.
  • You should be dancing to music!
  • Your video should be approximately 60 seconds long. Longer videos are okay, but only 60 seconds may be reviewed during the session due to time constraints

REGISTRATION DETAILS
Your registration includes all Saturday sessions and the Sunday video feedback session. If you would like for your video to be reviewed in the Sunday session, you must submit your video by September 19, 2020. You can submit your video with your registration, OR send it kayla@bostonbalboa.org. If you do not want your video reviewed, please select to OPT OUT of the video review session in your registration form.

Your registration includes the Virtual Shuffle, but participation in the signature Shenanigans requires a $5 fee. Your registration includes the Virtual Speakeasy.
